Officials from Europe such as the French president accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans targeted individuals who have been at the heart of efforts to enact laws governing American tech companies.
“For far too long, European activists have led organised efforts to pressure US companies to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
